The Rose Of Tralee
The Rose of Tralee is an international festival and contest which is celebrated annually each year in August. The festival has been taking place since 1959 and brings together Irish communities all over the world. It is Ireland’s largest and longest-running festivals to date and celebrated 60 years running in 2019.
The contest entails a selection of women from around Ireland, and the world, gathering to celebrate their Irish roots. The live contest is spread over two evenings in the Dome located right in the heart of Tralee town. Each night of the contest women will be interviewed by the presenter and showcase a chosen talent. The night is filled with fun, dance, and song which guarantees to entertain. The festival is also broadcasted by RTE and is regarded as one of the highest viewed shows on Irish television with over a million people tuning in to watch it. At the end of the festival, one of the 32 contestants will be crowned the Rose. The festival’s unique name is derived from the love song ‘The Rose of Tralee’ by William Mulchinock and is famously sung immediately after the rose is crowned.
This festival brings Tralee to life each summer as the town is filled with many people who have travelled from near and far specially to experience the electric atmosphere that it brings each year. The festival also includes street entertainment, a carnival, live concerts, theatre, circus, markets, funfair, fireworks and not to mention the internationally renowned Rose of Tralee.
